"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable think is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes." (from 'Attitude' by Charles Swindoll)

Pierwsze do głowy przyszło nam Kolorado!

This year I’m getting 4 weeks off. Please note, though, that my year lasts from July to July because this is when I started my job. 4 weeks is quite generous for American standards, but there is one caveat to the story… as an intern I have to use all 4 weeks at one chunk. Otherwise it would be almost impossible to come up with a fair schedule for almost 20 other interns. So as soon as I signed my job contract, I requested my 4 weeks off in January and February; first because it was exactly in the middle of my year, and second – it’s in the winter, so we could squeeze some skiing.

First idea we got was Colorado! We’d never skied in the West. But we would have to fly to Colorado, and then rent a car, and pay double for hotels and ski passes. So after doing some math we decided that for the same amount of money we could vacation in two different places. We could ski in the East and then go somewhere warm.

So we started our internet search for a place to go. We excluded Hawaii almost immediately. It takes 3 days to travel there and back; to make it worthwhile we would have to stay there at least 7 days… and then it’s not so affordable any more. We looked at some cruises – to Jamaica, Caribbean, Mexico… but ultimately I decided that we can postpone that sort of vacation until older age. Then we looked at number of “all inclusive” resort vacations in exotic places, but I thought I would get bored with that after a day or two…

Ultimately, we are flying to Paris today!!! The vacation shouldn’t be to pricey, since we exchanged our reward miles for free tickets. It would be better, though if we actually had some winter on the East Coast this year. Meanwhile spring flowers started blooming in my garden today. I’m not going to sweat it, though. I’ll have an awesome time in Paris, and who knows! Maybe we’ll get some winter weather after we get back and will be able to squeeze in some skiing before my vacation is over.
