"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable think is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes." (from 'Attitude' by Charles Swindoll)

Wow!

Wracamy z weekendu and oceanem.

Wow! And I thought that my husband was super inventive with our engagement!

So here it goes.
We'd known each other a little bit over a month.
We were driving home from a weekend at the ocean, stuck in a terrible traffic on an interstate, moving about 20 miles per hour.
Mike: What would you say if I proposed to you?
Me: What?! Are you asking me to marry you?
Mike: I'm asking what you'd say if I did.
Me: So you are asking to marry me! Like that?! In the traffic, with no ring?
Mike: I'd rather know before I spend all the money... (and he laughed).

There months later he flew back to Poland with me and asked my father (in Polish!!!)  for a permission to marry me. The permission was obviously granted and the following day he proposed to me on his knee, with a beautiful ring, at the dinner with my relatives and friends.

I guess I got a little sentimental after I saw that video on youtube :).

No może z wyjątkiem niebiańskich  deserów i bogatego asortymentu win w zakakująco rozsądnych cenach! No i oczywiście przepyszna kawa na każdym kroku.

Paris was… beautiful. But the vacation could have been better, overall.

The whole trip started with a delay. After we boarded the plane and were making our way towards the runway, something didn’t check off during their final inspection and… it took almost five hours to fix the damn plane. We were supposed to take off at 10pm and we didn’t leave Washington until 3 am. They brought the plane back to the terminal and we could leave if we wanted, but this point I was all tucked in for the night. So we got to Paris in the evening instead of mid-morning. I even told Mike that they should rebook our return flight to make up for the lost vacation time.

Then the whole drama with the dog happened (as described in the previous post). And if all that wasn’t enough, our return flight got cancelled (I guess I should be watching what I’m wishing for). Unfortunately it wasn’t until after we checked in and dropped our luggage off. Ultimately, by the time we rebooked our flight for the next day, it was already late afternoon, I was over Paris and we spent our last night in a creepy airport hotel!!!

Parisians surprised me. Many spoke quite decent English, and those who did not, didn’t seem to mind my broken French. And I totally loved their habit of “people watching”. Despite of sub-freezing temperatures, the chairs outside of bars and restaurants were always full of folks, watching others walk by.

Food was somewhat disappointing. Don’t get me wrong – it wasn’t bad. We liked everything, starting with a French baguette hotdog from a street vendor, through foie-gras hamburger and escargot, to our favorite duck confit…. But ultimately the cuisine has not met our expectations. Perhaps with the exception of heavenly desserts and huge selection of reasonably priced wines. And of course delicious coffee everywhere!

We got to experience some winter, that wouldn’t be possible here in Virginia. And we got fully “culturalized”. Mike loved Versailles most. I didn’t share his enthusiasm; despite its splendor and richness, to me it seemed to be just another palace. I definitely appreciated Louvre and Museum Orsay more.

So we can check Paris off our list of places to go. Overall it’s been a positive experience, but we’re not thinking about going back. French province is still on our itinerary.
